| Your installation of a
gas log or fireplace product may require certain accessories to make the
installation meet minimum clearance requirements, enhance appearance or
operating convenience and enjoyment.
Certain installations may have limited space
from the opening of the fire box up to the mantel that would not be safe
due to excess heat on the bottom of the mantel. The installation
of a hood at the top opening of the fire place may be adequate to reduce
the distance needed so that moving or removal of the mantel want be necessary.
You must check the installation Manual to determine the clearance
needed.
Hoods are available in Flat Black or Brass
finish.

Many fire boxes have options that help you create
the custom look you are looking for like brass
trim or jade facings.
Circulation blowers may be added to
assist in moving air around the room more quickly.
You will get a supply of granulated lava rock
with the purchase of your fire place that is often all that you might
want to use to pour around your new fire logs to simulate ashes in
the hearth. I have found that the addition of sculptured ceramic embers really
sets off the fire
place, adding a finished touch that you will quickly recognize. If you
have visited around this site you will notice that many of the best
looking photos of gas logs have the optional embers in place.( Note
these embers do not glow and are not meant to be placed on any burning
portion of your gas logs.)
If you don't have remote control of your
gas logs you will need an easy way to get to your controls and then be
able to conceal them
quickly and easily. Another option for hiding the gas burner and
controls that allows easy access, is a lift out cast iron fender.
You can combine both the Embers and the Fender for a very finished look.
If you selected a Millivolt model gas log set you
will have several options for controlling the on off operation.
The log set is equipped with an on board switch that can be used to turn
on and off the flame (once the pilot is ignited), other control
options include a remote mounted wall switch or wall thermostat that may
add the convince you are looking for. ( Note that wiring will have to be
run from Gas logs to wall switch location, best done when house is under
construction). Other options include the use of wireless hand held
remote controls. Most people find that the least expensive push
button on off control will meet their needs to stop and start the flame
as they desire. The Monessen model shown is particularly nice as it
displays room temperature on its digital display and has a sculptured contour
that is easy to pick up and operate. If automatic temperature control and timer
programming functions are desirable to maintain a set temperature where
the gas logs might be depended on for supplemental heat then a
Thermostat model might be advisable. |
